Yesterday we got to join with hundreds of leaders to celebrate this community, and we got to chat through all that's being prepared for CPC19. What a blast!
It made me reflect on my very first CPC experience almost a decade ago.
When I walked in the convention center doors, I was completely blown away by the number of leaders that were there. When I checked in, I was greeted by a volunteer who seemed genuinely excited that I had arrived.
To be honest, I was concerned that I would feel out of place. I didn't "feel" like a leader, so it was hard for me to imagine how I would connect with this large of a group of leaders in children's ministry. But that volunteer...she didn't treat me any differently than the person in line in front of me. She made me feel like I was expected to be there.
When I sat down in my first breakout, I remember the person next to me holding out his hand and saying, "Hi there! Is this your first time? You're in for a treat!" We chatted about where we were from and why we had come. He gave me some tips for the rest of the event, and then we settled in for an incredible breakout session on ministry to families.
The first time I walked in the Resource Center, my eyes went wide.I had NO idea that a room like this ever existed... I felt like I had walked into a candy store just for children's ministry. Row after row of resources - and each booth was so fun and friendly!
General Sessions were my favorite moments of that CPC. I loved standing there listening to everyone worship. It was one of the best sounds I had ever heard.
The main thing I felt coming away from that CPC was that there was something indescribable that happened when God's people got in the same space with each other like this to grow. He met them in renewal, in the learning, in the space to meet others like them, and in the ideas that were going to transform the way they approached discipleship.
And that happens still today. It's one of the reasons we keep gathering- so we can return back to our places with renewed vision, growth, and passion for the discipleship of kids and families.
I want you to know I'm so proud of you for choosing to begin a new year of ministry with a fresh perspective, a network of leaders to support your journey, and a renewed vision for discipleship.
It's going to be such an honor to get to meet you in person in Orlando!
