Resilience can be described as the ability to bounce back, to endure pressure and keep moving when life gets hard. And yes, it’s something we can learn and develop with practice.

But unleashed resilience is something more.

It’s not just about gritting our teeth or pushing through. It’s about being shaped in the middle of the fire by the One who walks with us through it. This kind of resilience doesn’t come from our own capacity, it’s cultivated when we unleash God’s power that is at work, within us; when we rely on His strength to help us endure.

Paul put it this way in 2 Corinthians 4:7-9 (NIV): “But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.”

We see this all through Paul’s life and his teachings. He was misunderstood, abandoned, redirected, and persecuted. Yet he showed us that being knocked down doesn’t mean being knocked out. His life was anchored in practices that kept him close to God’s heart and continually surrendered. In Paul’s weakness, God’s strength was unleashed.

That’s the difference. Ordinary resilience helps us survive hard things. But unleashed resilience frees us from what tries to crush us and empowers us to keep living out the purpose and calling that God has for our life. And when this kind of resilience shows up in us, it tells a bigger story: that God is still present, still working, and still faithful. We don’t lead in spite of our limits; we can lead through them.
